Leadership Wimmera was established with a Board of Management in 2001.
Leadership Wimmera is an initiative of the business and community people of
the Wimmera Grampians region which covers six municipalities. They are shires
of Hindmarsh, West Wimmera, Yarriambiack, Northern Grampians, and the rural
cities of Horsham and Ararat.
End of year events and activities:
Community Leadership Year – Project Presentations
Thirteen people, working across four project teams, presented their findings
and recommendations at this years Project Presentations evening in October.
Their topic: This region has just experienced its most significant fire in
decades, in addition to an extended dry period of eight years.

2006 Gala Dinner
More than 140 people celebrated 26 people who took part in this years Leadership
Skills Initiative and Community Leadership Years at Leadership Wimmera’s
Gala Graduation event. Guest speaker and distinguished arts leader Ms Sue Nattrass
AO returned to the region she grew up on for the event.
Program Updates
Leadership Skills Initiative
and Community Leadership Year in 2007
For the second year in a row both Programs have been over subscribed. To
cater for the late interest received, the Board has invited 31 candidates to
participate in these Leadership programs next year.
Businesses and communities represented in the 2007 intake include manufacturing,
health and welfare sector, accountancy, natural resource service industries
and agencies, and private business. Five candidates enter the 2007 program
on scholarships.
Service Provider
Three high profile leadership development professionals will return to their
home region to deliver Leadership Wimmera courses next year.
Leadership Wimmera Board has appointed Melbourne-based leadership development
specialists Leading Teams to run two of its leadership programs in 2007.
Former Horsham man Ray McLean, Gerard Murphy, who grew up in Minyip district,
and Kraig Grime, formerly of Stawell, will deliver Community Leadership Year
and Leadership Skills Initiative courses.
Leading Teams, formerly called Athlete Development Australia, designs and
delivers leadership programs for top-level clubs in Australian Football League,
National Football League, basketball, rowing and cricket sporting codes.
2005 AFL premiers Sydney Swans and top-of-the-ladder NFL team Melbourne Storm
are among groups that implement Leading Team programs.
Sponsorship Update
The Board of Leadership Wimmera wishes to acknowledge the support it has
received from the Department for Victorian Communities to deliver the Community
Leadership and Skills Initiative Program in 2005 and 2006.
Financial assistance from Regional Development Victoria, through the Provincial
Leaders Grant will enable these two programs to be delivered in 2007 and 2008.
