Skills Initiative and Community Leadership Year
Two programs commenced in March with twenty-seven people attended the opening
Retreat. Leadership Wimmera run two programs in parallel, sharing the retreat
and selected workshop days, to enable the sharing of ideas and experiences across
both programs.
The two programs will be attending the following workshops over the next 3 months
Workshop 1: Self Management and Conflict Resolution –
Horsham Workshop 2: Presentation Skills – Nhill and Stawell
Workshop 3: Leading Change – Horsham Workshop
4: Program Skills – venue tbc span>.
In addition to workshops, the Community Leadership Year explore key themes relevant
to the broader region. The topics for the 2006 Community Leadership Year are
as follows:
The Wimmera Grampians region takes in six municipalities - Hindmarsh, West Wimmera,
Yarriambiack, Northern Grampians, and the cities of Horsham and Ararat. This
region has just experienced its most significant fire in decades, in addition
to an extended dry period of eight years. Whilst each municipality has been
(and will be) affected differently, the combined effect on the region as a whole
is significant.
Recovery is a word used frequently in situations such as this. It has multiple
meanings. ‘To recover’ suggests returning to past conditions and
implies that the solutions put in place do not incorporate the future. Recovery
should be the result of strategic decision making - it is the opportunity to
rebuild and to remodel our future.
