Strategy
This strategy will guide the future industrial development
across the whole Wimmera region.
The implementation of the project will improve the long
term viability of communities within the region through
the attraction of business and industry to dedicated,
serviced facilities in the region’s communities.
It will also support business growth and retention in
the region’s communities and provide the information
to attract new investment and business.

for future industrial development to attract new business
and support the needs of our expanding existing businesses.

Regional Migration Incentive
Fund
The Department for Victorian Communities has allocated
funding for a number regions across Victoria for the next
three years to develop and implement a regional migration
strategy. The strategy will be the basis for attracting
skilled and business migrants and their families to settle
and work in regional Victoria. |
The Wimmera Development Association will
be the lead agency in this region and will work in conjunction
with a number of regional partners to implement this
program.
The program aims to support sustainable industry and
growth in Victoria and will:
- assist regional communities attract and retain skilled
migrants in regional Victoria;
- help meet identified skill shortages by matching
skilled migrants with job opportunities in rural and
regional Victoria.
This program is expected to commence in March 2005
with an extensive skills audit of the region conducted
which will identify current and future skill requirements
in the region.

Regional Inter-Modal Freight
Hub
The Inter-rmodal Freight Hub Study investigating future
requirements of the road and rail network for the grains
industry has moved to the next stage.

Maunsell Australia are preparing a scoping
paper to outline the structure of the business case, funding
options, potential commercial partners and management
structure. This scoping paper will form the basis of the
Business Plan.
Horsham Rural City Council backs the plan for a major
freight terminal at Dooen, just north of the city. This
location is a preferred site from the recently-released
study and supports the development of the regional grains
export industries. |
