Wimmera Regional Intermodal Freight Hub

To date, the project has funding commitments of $500,000 from Horsham Rural City Council, $500,000 from ABB Grain Ltd and $2.25 million from the State Government. Funding of $5.3 million was announced in the Federal 2009/2010 budget. The Wimmera Development Association will be actively lobbying for $1.2 million of Federal support in the 2010-2011 budget to complete the funding requirements of the project.

Competitive transport distribution networks are vital for the continued growth and development fo the region's industries and the new Freight Hub would handle 18,600 containers by the year 2011 - more than twice the number of containers currently handled at Horsham.

The facility would result in other resource cost-savings and benefits such a improved road and rail transport efficiencies, container handling efficiencies and less pressure on the region's roads.
